Learn More About DA Sherry Boston

Addressing gun violence across the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit has been a priority for DA Boston. As part of a staff restructuring effort, Ms. Boston formed a Firearm Violence Prevention unit. This team, which includes an attorney, an investigator, a victim advocate, and a social worker, works to reduce the proliferation of gun violence in DeKalb County.

Given the pivotal role her office plays in DeKalb’s criminal justice system, when she took office DA Boston mandated that each member of her staff of lawyers and public servants undergo Implicit Bias Training. She is the first district attorney in Georgia to implement this policy.

Through her work with the Institute for Innovation in Prosecution and the Fair and Just Prosecution initiative, DA Boston is part of the national dialogue on criminal justice reform. She also works to develop and share innovative prosecution strategies specific to juvenile justice, reentry, and accountability initiatives.

DA Boston was recently appointed to the recently formed GRACE Commission, a statewide task force created by Georgia’s First Lady to combat human trafficking. Sherry Boston is one of four prosecutors and the only district attorney in the state to serve on the commission. The FBI identified metro Atlanta as having an abnormally high rate of human trafficking, making the prosecution of perpetrators a core part of her team’s efforts.

In addition to her elected positions, DA Boston has received numerous legal appointments and wide recognition for her innovative prevention & intervention initiatives and impassioned commitment to domestic violence awareness. In 2018, she received the Champion for Change Award from the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence for her leadership.

In 2022, DA Boston was honored by the National Black Prosecutors Association (NBPA) with the President’s Award of Excellence. Ms. Boston was selected due to her demonstrated commitment to the recruitment, retention, education, and promotion of African-American prosecutors.

Prior to being elected as DeKalb County District Attorney, she served as DeKalb County Solicitor-General, the elected prosecutor overseeing misdemeanor crimes. At that time, Ms. Boston was instrumental in revamping DeKalb’s Traffic Division. She also implemented innovative community outreach, crime prevention strategies, and programs.

Among her varied involvement in community and legal organizations, District Attorney Boston is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia, where she serves on the Board of Governors, the State Bar’s policy-making arm.

Honored by Atlanta Magazine many times over as one of metro Atlanta’s 500 Most Influential People, DA Boston is a graduate of Villanova University and the Emory University School of Law. She resides in DeKalb County with her husband and two daughters.
